Hillsdale offering upscale wooden daybeds
Metal line broadened with four new models at $599–$699 retail

Louisville, Ky. — Hillsdale Furniture has broadened its daybed offerings with upscale wood models. The four all-wood daybeds, which debuted at the October High Point market, retail from $599 to $699.
The company introduced the beds in response to dealer requests to expand its current line of metal daybeds, sold under the company's Hillstreet metal beds division. The company has had those in the line for some time at retail prices ranging from $149 to $199, with some as low as $75 to $99.
"There have been a lot of calls for us to do higher-end daybeds," said Vice President of Sales Keith Meriwether. "We are filling a niche out there for both price and style."
He said response to the wood daybeds at market was positive and that dealers placed orders. "The daybeds were a big hit," Meriwether said.
They should help give more options to consumers looking to fill spare rooms or guest rooms in their home, he said.
Hillsdale is not the first metal beds vendor to diversify with wood day beds. Largo, Fashion Bed Group and Powell Co. are some other companies that have wood or a combination of wood and metal daybeds in their line.
Made in Vietnam from Asian hardwoods, the Hillsdale daybeds are hand-carved, traditionally styled pieces that come in several different looks and finishes, including cherry, black and antique white.
The company also introduced a canopy metal bed called the Normandy that retails for about $799.
Hillsdale is moving to compete more directly with higher-end producers. At the October market, it introduced several upscale metal beds that retail between $699 and $799.
Typically, its beds retail at around $199.
The new products are being shipped through the company's warehouses in Louisville and Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., during this year's first quarter.
