Minneapolis — Finish supplier Valspar has promoted its chief operating officer to succeed Richard Rompala as president and CEO.
William Mansfield takes over the top spots effective Feb. 23.
He joined Mobil Chemical in 1977 and then Valspar after it purchased Mobil's coatings business in 1984. He spent much of his career leading the company's packaging coatings business, and in 2000 assumed additional responsibility for Valspar's architectural coatings. He was named COO in April 2004.
The company, which makes coatings for furniture, cars and appliances, said Rompala, CEO since 1995, will continue as chairman of the board to ensure a smooth transition.
