New York — The late Julius Fineman, who founded retailer Fineman Furniture here in 1937, was among the first group honored with memorial scholarships in their names by the Walter Kaner Children's Foundation.
Julius's son, Seymour Fineman, president and CEO of Fineman Furniture, donates office and warehouse space to the foundation and is a major supporter. Julius's grandson, Howard Fineman, is a vice president with Ashley Furniture.
The 52-year-old Walter Kaner Children's Foundation assists economically disadvantaged or physically and mentally challenged children in the New York area, or other organizations serving their needs.
It operates entirely with volunteer help and donated space.
