Target spotlights Global Bazaar area
Carole Sloan -- Furniture Today, February 20, 2005
Minneapolis — Trendy discounter Target is inviting its customers on a trip with Global Bazaar, a six-week home furnishings promotion that includes an array of furniture and rugs from around the world.
The home extravaganza is filling a time and space slot that will next go to lawn and garden, which typically is in place in February.
Global Bazaar features accessories, home textiles, furniture and area rugs from Africa, Europe, Latin America, India and other parts of Asia.
While space and assortment vary according to store size, one large store — the Greatland Target in Jersey City, N.J. — had about 400 linear feet of merchandise displayed by geographical area, surrounding a center pavilion holding mostly large pieces such as dining room furniture and chests.
In furniture, the Greatland selection ranged from a collection of upholstered ottomans to dining tables and chairs, end tables, a bevy of chests and woven wood chairs. The dining table was priced at $249 and a pair of chairs at $124.
Target launched the event with a television ad campaign as well as the cover and the first five inside pages of its mid-January circular.
