Shermag plant lays off 80
By Furniture Today Staff -- Furniture Today, February 20, 2005
Victoriaville, Quebec — Shermag last week laid off 80 employees, or half of the work force, at its HPL division factory here.
"This unfortunate measure is necessary to reduce capacity and correct excessive inventory build-up," said Jeff Casselman, president and CEO of the publicly held full-line producer.
Victoriaville was one of three Shermag plants involved in lengthy labor disputes last summer. The plant resumed operations in September.
The layoff represents about 3% of Shermag's total work force of 2,400.
