Tupelo: Good food, fun and furniture
Ray Allegrezza -- Furniture Today, March 3, 2005
While there may be no such thing as a free lunch, retailers shopping the just-concluded Tupelo market could have cared less. And why should they? Buyers working the market here can count on a host of amenities, including a complimentary breakfast and dinner.
And by breakfast, we’re not just talking rolls and coffee. No, sir. Keep in mind that this is Tupelo. Which means that in addition to that roll and coffee, they also load up your plate with eggs, sausage, bacon, biscuits, pancakes and grits. With a breakfast like that, who needs lunch? However, should you be hungry at the end of the day, the market will treat you to a down-home dinner. One night it’s fried catfish, the next, fried chicken, both with all the fixin’s.That’s not sufficient? They also throw a few parties during market, co-hosted by your friends at Furniture/Today. Some of the other neat things they do to make the market as stress-free as possible are to offer valet parking and a free shuttle service to take you from building to building. By the way, the shuttle drivers have to be the most friendly, courteous people on the planet. I was on a shuttle when someone asked if they could get a ride to the local Wal-Mart to pick up some discs for their digital camera. The driver was happy to oblige. I think I could have asked to bum a ride all the way back to the Memphis airport and the driver would have done it.Whenever I’m in Tupelo, everyone makes me feel they are glad to see me. What’s more, I believe the friendly, upbeat attitude that everyone exudes is the real deal. And because of that, a funny thing happens. I suddenly find myself more upbeat, invigorated and ready to work market.Good food, good folks, good fun, great furniture. All wrapped up in a great can-do attitude. No wonder I’m not the only one that enjoys Tupelo.
