Louis E. Friedman, Douglas Furniture
Cincinnati — Louis E. Friedman, eastern region sales manager for Douglas Furniture, died unexpectedly at his home here.
Friedman, 55, had worked for Douglas for 25 years. Known to his friends as "Big Lou," he worked in the retail and wholesale furniture business in the Cincinnati area before joining Douglas as a sales representative in 1980.
At the time, Douglas was based in the Chicago area. When the company later moved all its operations to the West Coast, Friedman became the company's emissary in the east.
"Lou inspired by example, and his absence will leave a tremendous void in the many lives he touched each day," said Ken Salm, senior vice president of sales at Douglas. "His warmth, generosity and professional integrity earned him the admiration, respect and affection of his peers as well as his customers and colleagues in the home furnishings industry."
Survivors include his wife, a son and a sister. One of his nephews, Jared Frank, is a sales associate for Douglas in Michigan and Ohio. Another nephew, Jeffrey Lane, is manager of sales administration at the company's corporate office in Redondo Beach, Calif.
Memorial contributions may be sent to The Maxine Friedman Cardiovascular Fund, c/o Jewish Community Center, 7420 Montgomery Road, Cincinnati, Ohio, 45236.
