Bob's Discount Furniture launches campaign to support kids' education

Manchester, Conn. — Bob's Discount Furniture is expanding its charitable efforts this year with a new campaign called Bob's Cares, which will focus on the needs of children and education.
Bob's kicked off the campaign in February with Bob's Rockin' Reading Classroom Contest in conjunction with the national Read Across America campaign.
The company has also made permanent the Bob's Book Nooks that were tested in stores last year. The Nooks provide a place in each store where children can sit and read while their parents are shopping.
Bob's second annual Art Scholarship contest will be held in the fall, rewarding three art students in different age groups with scholarship money for college. Last year's contest, for children ages 4 to 12, was based on the theme, "Why They Love Their Country."
Other events the retailer expects to participate in this year include an annual fall food drive for local food banks; The Salvation Army's Adopt A Family program; the Angel Tree campaign, in which employees adopt families during the holiday season, and The United Way's Joy of Sharing Toy drive.
The company also participates in the March of Dimes campaign and holds two blood drives a year for the American Red Cross.
"Bob's is unique in so many ways," said Cathy Poulin, director of public relations. "The company's charity and community giving reveals why we like working here so much. It's not only about what the company and its owners do. Many of our employees contribute, and we invite members of the community to participate in all our events."
