Traffic up 8.5% at Paris show
By Furniture Today Staff -- Furniture Today, March 13, 2005
Paris — Reported attendance was up 8.5% at January's Maison & Objet home furnishings show here, although North American representation slipped 6%.
Organizers of the show said 70,419 buyers attended, up from 64,915 at the January 2004 edition.
Of the total, about one third were from outside France. Attendance among foreigners rose 17% from a year ago to 23,339. Regions with the largest gains were Eastern Europe at 63% and the Middle East at 55%.
North America was the only region to send fewer buyers to the twice-yearly event. Show organizers blamed the decline on the shrinking value of the U.S. dollar, which makes European travel more expensive for Americans.
