Lane brings West Indies to Mexico

Mexico City — Lane's licensed National Geographic West Indies collection has debuted at Mexico's largest retailer, Liverpool Department Stores.
A party at the Hotel Camino Real's Moon Bar in Mexico City kicked off the launch. Liverpool, named after the English port where goods destined for Mexico once were dispatched, is showcasing the West Indies collection in 11 of its stores that carry furniture.
The national chain offers upscale clothing for men, women and children as well as home furnishings.
"Introducing these furniture statements to Mexico is an exciting step in our efforts to expand National Geographic Home to new markets," said Krista Newberry, National Geographic's vice president of licensing for soft lines.
Lane said the initial National Geographic Home furniture collection, which debuted October 2003 at High Point, was the most successful launch in its history. Other licensees make accessories, linens, lighting and tabletop.
National Geographic's first two furnishings collections, Tropic Winds and West Indies, hit retail last year and are available in Eastern and Western Europe, the Middle East and South America.
Founded in 1888, the National Geographic Society is one of the world's largest nonprofit scientific and educational organizations. National Geographic's net proceeds from the sale of its home collection go to the World Cultures Fund, which supports archaeologists, cultural anthropologists and artists worldwide.
