H.P. market condos available

High Point — A metro Washington furniture store owner is the first occupant of a new downtown High Point condominium that aims to attract other like-minded industry executives.
Mike Huber, CEO of Dulles, Va.-based Belfort Furniture, completed work on his company's two condo units at 212 N. Main St. just in time for this week's premarket. He held an open house on the eve of premarket for vendors and industry friends.
The four-story brick building, built in the late 1890s, was renovated by Brown Investment Properties. It includes 13 condo units on the top three floors and an 8,500-square-foot, first-floor showroom leased to G&J Styles, a distributor of antique reproductions.
Ivan Garry, a broker with Brown, said six of the 13 condominiums have been sold, all to people in the furniture industry. Garry said he doubts any owner will live there year-round, with the units being used for the twice-yearly furniture markets, premarkets and the Showtime fabric shows.
Huber said, "Working the market is a demanding job, and we were just tired of the hassle of renting a house for our team, fighting for close-in parking spots and never enjoying the real comforts of a place we could call home for all the time we're here."
Between markets, he will use his units for staff training sessions and as a perk to reward top employees.
According to the building's Web site, www.212northmain.com, remaining condos are priced from $139,900 for a one-bedroom, one-bath unit, to $259,900 for a two-bedroom, two-bath unit of 1,547 square feet.
