Gold returns to work after heart procedure

Taylorsville, N.C. — Mitchell Gold, co-founder and chairman of upholstery manufacturer Mitchell Gold Co., is back at work here — and feeling lucky — after heart problems earlier this month.
Gold was in metro Washington when he experienced what he described as chest "aches." He called his physician in North Carolina, who told him to have tests done immediately.
He was admitted to George Washington Hospital and examined by Vice President Dick Cheney's cardiologist, Dr. Jonathan Reiner.
The tests revealed numerous blockages in his coronary arteries. A new angioplasty procedure successfully removed them.
"I want to encourage people to always listen to their bodies," Gold said. "Don't fear being a hypochondriac! I was so lucky to go in when I did. And I am so amazed at what can be done with non-intrusive procedures. If this had occurred more than two years ago, they would have had to do open-heart surgery."
He said he is grateful to everyone who passed along wishes for a speedy recovery.
Gold is working on several books, one about his company and another a children's book written from the point of view of Lulu, the company's English bulldog mascot and top model.
