Lexington, N.C. — Lexington Home Brands plans to lay off around 90 workers in two plants here.
Twenty to 25 of the 40 workers in Plant 4, which cuts lumber and performs some veneer work, will lose their jobs around mid-April, said Jim Tysinger, corporate human resources director for Lexington.
"We didn't need that capacity for the lumber cutting, but we'll keep the veneer operation," he said.
Starting in mid-May, 65 to 70 workers will be laid off in Plant 5, which makes casual furniture as well as some upholstery and dining tables. Plant 5 will have around 100 workers after the layoffs.
"We're moving the dining production to Plant 2 (also in Lexington), and consolidating upholstery at our plant in Hildebrand (N.C.)," Tysinger said.
Lexington will have around 1,060 workers in Lexington and Hildebrand after the layoffs.
