About the numbers
By Furniture Today Staff -- Furniture Today, April 3, 2005
Furniture¦Today's exclusive imports/exports report is based on the value of imports as appraised by the U.S. Customs Service. This value is defined as the price actually paid or payable for merchandise, excluding U.S. import duties, freight, insurance and other charges. The numbers are coded according to the Harmonized Tariff Schedule and made available to Furniture| Today by the U.S. Census Bureau and the U.S. International Trade Commission. Imports of mattresses and box springs are excluded from the totals. Whenever possible, furniture not intended for household use is also excluded. In some cases, such as miscellaneous wood parts, it is not possible to differentiate between products intended for household or contract use.
