Vineyard makes HP debut
By Thomas Russell -- Furniture Today, April 10, 2005
High Point — Case goods and occasional furniture importer Vineyard Furniture is making its High Point debut this market in a 17,500-square-foot showroom at Center Point on Manning.
Until now, the seven-year-old company, based in Baskin, La., has shown only at Tupelo. The company will remain there, but decided it also made strategic sense to be at the world's largest home furnishings show.
"We have some exposure with sales reps in the Northeast, but we can only develop to limited potential without product for them to see in High Point," said Vice President of Sales Doug Franklin. "How we present ourselves in High Point will be the perception that most defines us."
Vineyard's High Point showroom will be larger than its 16,000-square-foot space in Tupelo. In High Point, it occupies a portion of the former Davis International Furniture showroom, which is moving to a new Center Point building on Russell Avenue.
Vineyard was in the space for premarket.
Franklin said the company has signed a five-year lease at Center Point.
"We have a tremendous amount of commitment from our dealer base that is interested in what we do," he said. "They don't shop the regional markets, and look forward to seeing us in High Point."
Sharing the second floor of Center Point on Manning with Vineyard is case goods importer Liberty Furniture, which has a space of about 25,000 square feet, said Lynn Underwood, Center Point's sales coordinator.
"We're just very excited to have Liberty and to have Vineyard," she said. "They will be great assets to our Center Point complex.... We definitely have become a destination."
Vineyard is rolling out a slate of new product for High Point.
Three bedroom groups in the $1,499 to $1,599 retail range will be marketed under the company's Harvest Line division. A new bedroom in the Vineyard division called Auberdine Mills will carry a suggested retail of $2,499 for four pieces.
Two occasional groups that were new for Tupelo and four more for High Point will correlate with bedrooms in Harvest Line. New curios also are on tap.
"Our curio program has been very, very successful," Franklin said. "We are capturing attention and recognition from some smart buyers who recognize our curios as a real value in the industry."
Pieces are being added to Vineyard's Caribbean Splendor, including two options in dining. The group represents the high end of Vineyard's line, with four-piece bedrooms at $3,999 retail.
Other new products are in A Perfect Blend, a 100-piece painted cottage-style collection with rub-through applications. The group includes bedroom, accents, armoires and casual dining, with bedrooms retailing from $1,499 to $1,999.
