NorthPole to make La-Z-Boy licensed outdoor products

Monroe, Mich. — Upholstery giant La-Z-Boy has signed its first non-furniture licensing agreement, and will put its name on tents, hammocks, sleeping bags and other outdoor leisure products made by NorthPole Ltd.
The first products will hit North American retail floors in spring 2006.
"NorthPole is the top tent and sleeping bag maker in the world and has a stellar reputation for designing distinctive, high-quality products," said Doug Collier, La-Z-Boy chief marketing officer.
Collier said the company opted to extend the power of the La-Z-Boy brand into products where comfort is a primary consideration, much like with La-Z-Boy recliners. That's a prime factor consumers also consider when purchasing La-Z-Boy furniture, he said.
"We are very enthusiastic, in our first major licensing venture, to be working with NorthPole to provide a range of quality products that extends the brand to the outdoors," he said.
NorthPole, with U.S. operations based in Washington, Mo., is the world's largest maker of camping tents and sleeping bags. The vertically integrated company has over 2,500 employees worldwide.
