Shadow Mountain adds rustic seating program

Joan Gunin -- Furniture Today, April 10, 2005

Shadow Mountain, an importer of bedroom, casual dining, occasional and lighting, becomes a complete resource for imported rustic looks with the addition of a chair program at the April High Point market.

"We have found a niche as a rustic-casual-lodge one-stop shop," said Chad Turney, president and CEO. "We are expanding because our customer base has requested this.

"We have seen a void in the marketplace in terms of imports. Most rustic looks are made domestically. We can compete with those looks at lower prices."

Founded three years ago, Shadow Mountain has gradually broadened its mix from lighting and accessories to furniture.

The addition of chairs includes both rockers and stationary birchwood frames with leather accents. It also marks the company's entry into leather seating. The collection, made in China, will retail at $799.

Turney said the program offers "one leather, one finish — in a box ready to go."

Shadow Mountain also will launch a direct container program from Asia this market. The company also ships from a distribution center in Statesville, N.C. In addition to China, the company sources from the Philippines and Indonesia.

Turney said the company distributes nationally to about 800 customers and has a network of 30 sales representatives. In High Point, it shows in Market Square, MS-251.
