Program sponsors interns

High Point — The first student interns in a joint program sponsored by the International Textile Market Assn. and the Young Home Furnishings Professionals will be placed in the industry in June.
The intern program will pair high-achieving college juniors and seniors with industry leaders for an eight-week educational experience, in hopes of attracting and retaining more young people to the industry.
Both YHFP and ITMA have had internship programs, placing students with such participating companies as La-Z-Boy, Klaussner, Burlington Inds., Culp, Furnitureland South, Rose Furniture, the American Home Furnishings Alliance and Furniture/Today.
Iv Culp, president of YHFP and president of Culp Home Fashions, said his group had been "impressed with the efforts of ITMA with their student tours, and we believe our two organizations have synergies in our goals — which is to help the industry grow by attracting young people to the business.
"We hope this partnership will significantly boost the internship program," Culp continued. "This summer we hope to place 20 students."
Internship applications are available at www.yhfe.org.
