Crisp contemporary

By Furniture Today Staff -- Furniture Today, April 10, 2005

The popularity of contemporary seems nowhere near its peak, with both wood and upholstered furniture manufacturers strengthening the category in a number of different forms. Indeed, several case goods companies that have never ventured beyond transitional are trying contemporary this market. One track that producers are taking, particularly in upholstery, is well-tailored urbane looks with straightforward lines that veer from the slouchy casual feel of a few markets ago. Retro, mid-century styling with zany covers and classic chrome legs also are holding their own. And new case goods collections are strutting their stuff with creative designs in morando solids, architectural white oak, ash burls, rosewood and birch.
