Changing lifestyles

Manufacturers have been closely watching the growing popularity of catalog retailers such as Pottery Barn, Crate & Barrel and Restoration Hardware. These retailers have established a new category centered on lifestyle-oriented furniture. Now these transitional designs are finding their way into traditional furniture stores. The look is straightforward, edging on contemporary, with lots of easy-care fabrics and clean-lined case goods. Collections aim at drawing the young and young-at-heart. Many of the pieces are scaled down and multifunctional to accommodate downsizing households.
