Neo-Neoclassical

By Furniture Today Staff -- Furniture Today, April 25, 2005

A move away from heavy carving has led traditional introductions the past few markets toward the more architectural forms of Neoclassical and Biedermeier. That trend continues this week, both in straight interpretations and a round of collections reflecting the more traditional side of transitional looks.

Century

Market Square 500
The Regent collection dresses down and contemporizes Neoclassical and Biedermeier forms through European birch construction and chamfered edges, with some yew applications, as well as a black accent finish.

Legacy Leather

224 E. Kivett Drive
Boston, a dramatic leather/fabric collage on a camelback frame, is offset with nailhead treatments, turned legs and assorted pillows.

Hekman

200 N. Hamilton St., S-107
This credenza typifies the Repertoire collection's updating of classic Neoclassical and Empire styles. It features leafy heart cherry bordered by rich walnut and satiny silver hardware.

Thomasville

401 E. Main St., Thomasville
This dresser showcases the Fredericksburg collection's 19th-century architectural details, including turned columns on case fronts, complemented by intricate veneer detailing.
