Casual classics

By Furniture Today Staff -- Furniture Today, April 25, 2005

Some traditional themes of British and European country are given a casual touch this market. The wood is often distressed or the painted finish rubbed through to show the wood beneath. The paints come in an array of colors, including the ever-popular off-white and black, but also pastels. These painted looks contrast nicely with stained wood tops on case pieces.

Hickory White

206 E. Green St.
Dining chairs from European Home are a prime example of the color options that sources are adding to traditional, yet casual introductions.

French Heritage

442 N. Wrenn St.
European country styles and a color story have proved a winning combination at French Heritage, adding a modern play on classic, familiar styles.

Hooker

Allen McDaniel

Market Square 1-3
A brand new exhibitor hits the ground running with classic-styled case goods and accents. The pieces have a designer's look in terms of color applications, including bold new finishes.

Bernhardt

IHFC D-601
