DeCoro will dive into case goods

At the Market — Italian-owned, China-based leather upholstery manufacturer DeCoro will enter the case goods segment "as soon as" October market, with production set to begin in late May, said President Luca Ricci.
Ricci, who set himself apart from other Italian leather upholstery makers six years ago by producing in China, plans to produce occasional tables, home entertainment, dining room and bedroom pieces. The case goods would begin shipping in January 2006.
"It is our philosophy to not only be an upholstery company but a full-service manufacturer," Ricci said. "We will now be able to give our customers a full package by offering not just sofas but 'everything'."
No accessories or gallery programs are planned. "Today's customer wants only a very good product," he said.
Next month, DeCoro next month will launch the DeCoro Wood Furniture division at the company's original 250,000-square-foot upholstery plant, located a 10-minute drive from its current leather operation in Shenzhen, China.
Ricci has hired two technicians from northern Italy to oversee the wood factory's 350 workers.
The mix of solids and veneers from China and elsewhere will favor "internationally styled contemporary designs" that complement DeCoro upholstery, Ricci said. He did not specify the number of collections planned.
Because the factories are close together, he said, DeCoro will be able to ship mixed containers of upholstery and case goods.
