DeCoro plans to add case goods this year

High Point — Italian-owned, China-based leather upholstery manufacturer DeCoro will add a case goods collection this fall, with production set to begin in late May, said President Luca Ricci.
Ricci, who set himself apart from other Italian leather upholstery makers six years ago by operating out of China, is poised to expand beyond his mid-priced seating line with the addition of occasional tables, home entertainment, dining room and bedroom pieces. The new assortment will bow as early as the October market, he said.
The case goods would begin shipping in January 2006, said Ricci, who unveiled his plans at last week's market.
"It is our philosophy to not only be an upholstery company but a full service manufacturer," he said. "We will now be able to give our customers a full package by offering not just sofas but 'everything'."
No accessories or gallery programs are planned. "Today's customer wants only a very good product," Ricci said.
With a capital investment Ricci termed "significant," DeCoro next month will launch the DeCoro Wood Furniture division at the company's original 250,000-square-foot upholstery plant, located a 10-minute drive from its current leather operation in Shenzhen, China.
Two technicians from northern Italy have been hired to oversee the wood factory's 350 workers, he said.
The mix of solids and veneers from China and elsewhere will favor "internationally styled contemporary designs" that complement DeCoro upholstery, Ricci said. He would not specify the number of collections or pieces to be included.
Because the factories are close together, he said, DeCoro will be able to ship mixed containers of upholstery and case goods.
