Quality Canada launched
By Furniture Today Staff -- Furniture Today, April 24, 2005
High Point — Canadian furniture manufacturers launched a Quality Canada marketing program at market here designed to position the country as a source of high-quality products.
The effort includes a logo, a Web site at www.canadianfurniture.com, and a CD-ROM. The logo will be used on hangtags identifying Canadian furniture on retail floors.
Jean Francois Michaud, president and CEO of the Quebec Furniture Manufacturers Assn., and David Hanna, president of the Ontario Furniture Manufacturers Assn., outlined the program at the Canadian furniture industry press breakfast during market.
The program is funded 90% by the QFMA and 10% by a Canadian government grant to the nation's three factory groups, which includes Furniture West.
To earn a Quality Canada designation, manufacturers must adhere to six standards of excellence, encompassing high-quality materials and workmanship, sturdy packaging, on-time delivery and service after the sale. Consumers will be able to contact an ombudsman with questions and complaints.
The program should be in full swing in the coming months.
