Phillips will head AICO's new upholstery division
By Furniture Today Staff -- Furniture Today, April 24, 2005
High Point — Laurie Phillips has been named director of upholstery merchandising for importer AICO, and will head the company's new upholstery division.
Phillips most recently was with Schnadig Corp., where she held the posts of vice president of merchandising and vice president of marketing.
Previously, she spent 17 years as a buyer with JCPenney. She will work at AICO's headquarters in Pico Rivera, Calif.
Phillips, whose appointment was announced at the April market here, is in charge of developing and merchandising a line of upholstery to complement AICO's case goods. The expansion of the Michael Amini Signature Series into upholstery will have her working closely with Amini, the company's founder and CEO.
She will be responsible for styling, cover selection, seating and construction, and will work with AICO's overseas facilities.
She reports to Martin Ploy, executive vice president.
Amini hopes the upholstery line will debut at the October market, but cautions, "I know how complex upholstery can be, and I know that Laurie wants her debut to be a knockout. I don't want to force her into a premature showing."
