Ruth Walker, retailer
By Furniture Today Staff -- Furniture Today, April 24, 2005
Las Vegas — Ruth Walker, co-founder of retailer Walker Furniture here, has died. She was 88.
Local newspapers reported that Walker and her husband, George Walker, who survives her, started the furniture business in 1963. She sold it to the Alterwitz family in 1973, said Deanne Alterwitz-Stralser, Walker's chairman.
"She was a great friend and a very astute businesswoman," Alterwitz-Stralser recalled.
Last year, Walker Furniture had estimated furniture, bedding and accessories sales of nearly $66 million at 18 locations, including bedding specialty stores.
