Second Retail Ideas workshop set for Atlanta
By Furniture Today Staff -- Furniture Today, April 24, 2005
Atlanta — Reed Business Information has scheduled its second Retail Ideas workshop for May 15–17 at the Sheraton Suites Galleria here.
Back-to-back sessions will focus on two pertinent industry issues.
"Driving Profits with the Right Product Strategy" will highlight ways to gain a competitive edge with a strong product and merchandising plan, including methods to manage and measure profits and the need to find a viable profit strategy in the face of logistics and distribution challenges. Speakers will include Albert Bates, chairman of the Profit Planning Group; Jan Hedrick, former director of design at retailer Jordan's Furniture, Avon, Mass.; and Loreen Epp, director of Retail Ideas.
"Building a Powerful Retail Brand" will examine today's multifaceted approach to branding. This goes beyond advertising and focuses on the total customer experience and planned, competitive differentiation as a critical branding and business strategy. Speakers will include Jim Calhoun, director of merchandising at the 400-plus gallery and store retailer, Norwalk — The Furniture Idea; Suze McKenzie, director of electronic media for Reed Business Information; and Epp.
"Retailers are facing mostly the same issues today," said Epp. "Size and position in the market may differ between them, but issues such as profitability, warehouse and delivery logistics, changing consumer values and the myriad of choices available affects them all. There's a lot of opportunity out there, but we're all going to need to reinvent ourselves regularly to keep up with market changes."
Reed Business Information is the parent company of Furniture/Today. More information on the Atlanta Retail Ideas workshop, including agenda, registration materials and hotel information, are available online at www.furnituretoday.com or by contacting Missy Axe at (336) 605-1005.
