ALEXANDRIA, Va. — The dollar value of bedding shipments in April was down 16.6% from the same month a year ago as the bedding industry continued to suffer from a prolonged recession.
The International Sleep Products Assn. said that unit shipments declined by 11% from a year earlier, while the average unit selling price declined 6.3%.
Those figures are from ISPA's Bedding Barometer, a monthly look at industry performance based on the results of 18 producers that represent about 45% of the industry's unit volume and about 56% of its dollar volume.
For the first four months of the year, the dollar value of bedding shipments was down by 16.9% while unit sales fell 14%. The average unit selling price was down by 3.4%, to $202.63.
