Up-and-coming producers
By Furniture Today Staff -- Furniture Today, May 29, 2005
High Point — Furniture/Today asked bedding producers and suppliers to estimate shipments for almost three dozen bedding companies across the country.
Fifteen of those companies are ranked on the newspaper's list of the Top 15 U.S. Bedding Producers. One of those — Symbol of Richmond, Va. - was listed as a contender by Furniture/Today last year.
This year's list, expanded from the Top 12 last year, includes two new faces. Corsicana, based in Corsicana, Texas, joins Symbol as a newcomer to the list.
Based on Furniture/Today's market research, these are the producers who are in the strongest position to someday join the ranks of the nation's largest producers:
-
United Sleep Products. Based in Denver, Pa., this producer makes conventional bedding as well as futons. United Sleep is the licensee for Simmons-brand futons.
-
Jamison. This Franklin, Tenn.-based company makes and markets its own bedding lines, and also produces the Hypnos line under license from Hypnos of the United Kingdom.
-
Park Place Corp. This Greenville, S.C.-based producer has a long history in the conventional bedding industry, but was also an early entrant in the specialty sleep category with its Comfortaire line of airbeds.
Other producers worth watching, Furniture/Today's research suggests, include Springwall, Fraenkel, Gold Bond, Verlo Mattress, Sleeptronic, Eclipse, Excel Bedding and Bemco.
