Malaysia's Décor Trend to boost RTA capacity
Thomas Russell -- Furniture Today, June 20, 2005
Selangor, Malaysia — Décor Trend Inds., a Malaysia-based manufacturer of ready-to-assemble home office and home entertainment furniture, plans to boost capacity by up to 30%.
Manufacturing space here will grow to about 300,000 square feet and 60 to 100 workers will be added, bringing the work force to between 660 and 700, and increasing production to over 100 containers a month.
The factory was turning out about 80 containers a month earlier this year, said Executive Director Chin Eu Wai.
Décor Trend's mix includes low- to medium-priced RTA in medium-density fiberboard and particleboard, with laminate surfaces. About 80% of its goods are exported, mainly to the United States, United Kingdom, Australia and Japan.
Its largest U.S. customers are Kmart and Wal-Mart, Chin said.
He said the expansion should be completed by the end of the year, with some additional capacity on line in time for the Christmas selling season.
