Atlanta — Full-line retailer Haverty Furniture reported May sales of $61.8 million, up 6.9% from the same month in 2004, with same-store sales inching up 1.2%.
For the first five months of 2005, Havertys had sales of $334.5 million, jumping 9.5% from the same period a year ago. Same-store sales in the five months increased 4.6%.
President and CEO Clarence Smith said, "For May, sales of casual dining merchandise were very strong, and all upholstery categories increased nicely. The overall average price per SKU and the average sales ticket were both up modestly.
"We are pleased that written orders for early June have increased by a mid single-digit for comparable stores versus the same time period last year," he added.
