Portland, Ore. — Hawaiian Lomi Group, a distributor of therapeutic massage chairs, has introduced the E-Motion Lounger, the first massage chair in its lineup that retails for less than $1,000.
The new chair, which is available in five microfiber colors, recreates a massage technique known as lomi, which originated in Hawaii in the early 1800s.
"Our research shows that consumer interest in massage chairs has begun to explode, and we wanted to be ready with the best chair at the best price," said Ron Loveday, president of Hawaiian Lomi Group.
Loveday said the new chair is being backed by an aggressive point-of-purchase program and a variety of other marketing aids. In addition, it is available on a quick-ship basis, which eliminates the need for a large dealer inventory, he said.
Hawaiian Lomi Group was founded in 2001 by Hawaii native Benson Medina. The company's chairs replicate the deep tissue, rhythmic massage that is central to the lomi technique.
