Whitewood on the grow
Powell Slaughter -- Furniture Today, September 5, 2005
Thomasville, N.C. — Casual dining source Whitewood Inds. has moved into bedroom, and opened a fifth facility here to support production, distribution and marketing.
Its unfinished furniture division introduced the first bedroom at the Unfinished Furniture Assn. show in Columbus, Ohio.
The new Bombé Collection in solid spruce includes 14 beds, nightstands, dressers and armoires, and is set to ship in December. Items are available in an antique black finish as well as unfinished. For now, the collection is part of the unfinished division, but could join Whitewood's John Thomas line of finished goods.
CEO Jorge Mata said, "We introduced a bombé chest in July 2004 and had immediate success. It only made sense to offer dealers a complete collection of bombé-inspired pieces."
Retails for finished suites with a queen headboard and footboard, nightstand, dresser/mirror and chest start at $2,199, or unfinished at $1,899.
Whitewood's new 70,000-square-foot facility brings its presence here to some 350,000 square feet. The plant, near corporate offices, comes online next month as a production and quick-ship facility. It also has a small studio for the marketing department.
