Serta sheep step up, in pink, to fight breast cancer

Hoffman Estates, Ill. — Serta's counting sheep have a new mission: Supporting the producer's new partnership with the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.
As part of the initiative, called Counting Sheep For the Cure, Serta is offering limited-edition pink mattress sets — a first for the company — for the rest of the year. Also debuting are special pink versions of the popular counting sheep stuffed animals.
In announcing the partnership, which begins Sept. 1, Serta officials said the company is donating $290,000 to the Susan G. Komen Foundation to fight breast cancer.
"We are both honored and excited to be working with the Komen Foundation," said Bob Sherman, president of Serta International. "The Komen Foundation has an outstanding record of initiating first-rate research projects and providing effective community programs that successfully fight this devastating disease. Serta shares in the foundation's commitment to find a cure for breast cancer, which tragically will claim more than 40,000 lives this year."
In support of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October, Serta has designed a line of plush pink Perfect Sleeper mattress sets decorated with "For The Cure" ribbons in the ticking. With any Perfect Sleeper mattress (pink or otherwise) consumers purchase, they will also receive a free pink counting sheep stuffed animal.
Working with the Komen Foundation, Serta will host Counting Sheep For the Cure pajama parties in October at mattress stores in five cities. Activities at the parties will raise funds for local Komen Foundation affiliates.
