Loyal Bedding mattress sets recalled for fire risk
CPSC says sets don't meet federal FR standard
David Perry -- Furniture Today, June 30, 2009
WASHINGTON — The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission has announced a voluntary recall of about 2,700 sleep sets produced by Loyal Bedding of Miami and distributed in Puerto Rico by Guaynabo Industrial. The CPSC said the sets fail to meet the federal open flame standard for mattresses and pose a fire hazard to consumers. It said that no injuries have been reported, but that consumers should stop using the products immediately.
The recall, announced in cooperation with Loyal Bedding, involves all Loyal Bedding mattress sets, sold in twin, full, queen and king sizes, under the names of "Loyal Bedding," "Classic Rest," "Designer Collection" or "Smart Loyal."
The CPSC said the sleep sets were sold by mattress retailers in Puerto Rico from July 2007 through February 2009 for $165 to $300. Consumers should contact Guaynabo Industrial for a store credit or a refund, CPSC said.
Industry observers said this is the second public mattress recall tied to the U.S. open flame mattress standard, which went into effect in July 2007. Serta said last fall it had voluntarily recalled about 6,100 polyurethane foam mattresses that didn't meet the FR standard.
