New RoomPlace store features updated design

LOMBARD, Ill. — The RoomPlace is opening a 27,000-square-foot showroom in the Chicago suburb of Hillside with a new contemporary design and the retailer's new-concept bedding area.
The store, on Mannheim Road in Hillside Town Center Shopping Plaza, soft-opened last week and will have a grand opening July 17. It replaces an older store, which that was converted to an outlet center, and features a new design with “a fresh contemporary look and unique architecture that allows for an enhanced shopping experience,” the Top 100 company said.
RoomPlace has added new colors, ceiling treatments and more hardwood surfaces.
“The updated design and layout will make the shopping experience easier and more enjoyable for our customers,” said Bruce Berman, president and CEO of the Lombard, Ill.-based chain. RoomPlace has 24 stores, including two outlet centers.
The new bedding test area, called The MattressPlace, was introduced earlier this year in a 10,000-square-foot space at the retailer's Cicero Avenue store in Chicago and was rolled out as tests to all stores in June.
The new format features a spa-like feel and décor that includes drapes to screen areas “and provide a more intimate, less public shopping excursion,” the company said. In addition, bedding is grouped by comfort level rather than brand.
“We wanted to make it easier for customers to shop for mattresses at The RoomPlace,” Berman said. “The selling process will center around comfort over brand and price in order to make choosing the right mattress simple and easy.
“Most retailers sell either by brand or price point,” he added. “Our experts can steer them much more quickly to the mattress that best suits their needs by using the comfort selling process.”
Bedding brands in the gallery include Sealy, Simmons, Medallion, Dormia and Tempur-Pedic.
RoomStore has another new store planned for Avon, Ind., later this summer — its third Indianapolis-area store — and also plans to expand The MattressPlace concept with freestanding bedding stores, though it hasn't said when.
