Greensboro, N.C. — Yarn producer Unifi is closing its central distribution center in Mayodan, N.C., and moving operations to its warehouse and logistics facilities in Yadkinville, N.C.
Nineteen jobs will be eliminated by the move, expected to be completed by December. About 60 positions will be relocated to Yadkinville.
Bill Lowe, chief operating officer and chief financial officer, said the consolidation will have little cost to the company because of Unifi's recent success in reducing inventories.
"We will continue to look for ways to maximize our efficiencies, while at the same time staying focused on profitable growth initiatives," he said.
Unifi also said it is moving the polyester texturing operations performed in its Reidsville, N.C., plant to its larger facilities in Yadkinville by Oct. 1. The move will result in the elimination of some 150 jobs in Reidsville and the addition of about 100 jobs in Yadkinville, the company said.
