Industry continues to help storm victims

Austin, Texas — More industry companies continue to make donations to Hurricane Katrina relief. Among the latest reports:

Florida-based retailer Rooms To Go gave $1 million to the American Red Cross and is working with several relief agencies to donate 5,000 rooms of furniture for storm victims over the next several months.

The World Market Center in Las Vegas will match up to $250,000 in contributions to the Las Vegas Market Relief Fund, benefiting Habitat for Humanity, the National Furniture Bank Assn. and the UJC Disaster Relief Fund. In addition, the showroom developer will ask exhibitors at its January market to make in-kind donations of product.
"The gravity of the situation is at its peak, but we know the rebuilding and relief effort will have to continue for months and years to come," said Jack Kashani, co-managing partner of the WMC.
Donations to the fund may be sent to the World Market Center, 495 S. Grand Central Parkway, Suite 2203, Las Vegas, Nev., 89106, Attention: Las Vegas Market Relief Fund.

Case goods and upholstery supplier Four Hands is offering its employees the option to donate their vacation hours for Katrina relief. Four Hands will donate the value of the hours that employees give up, and will match the amount with a company contribution. The plan allows employees to donate pre-tax money, the company said.

Retailer Naturwood Home Furnishings in Rancho Cordova, Calif., is forgoing its employee Christmas party to donate $12,000 to the American Red Cross.
The company also is matching employee donations to certain charities this month.
