Fort Worth, Texas — Specialty retailer The Bombay Company said it has three stores in New Orleans that remain closed in the wake of Hurricane Katrina.
Eight others in Alabama, Louisiana and Mississippi sustained minor damage and/or power loss and have reopened, the company said. Eight stores in Florida were closed for a short time but did not incur significant damage.
From Aug. 25 through Sept. 12, the company said it had lost 93 store selling days, amounting to 1% of the total chain's selling days. The company said it was insured for property damage and business interruption.
Bombay said it has provided continued job opportunities for several associates in its stores outside the affected areas. It also said the company and its employees are supporting relief agencies with contributions of cash and other essential items.
