Global Furniture USA acquires Michelangelo Designs building

High Point — Global Furniture USA, an importer of contemporary bedroom and living room furniture, has acquired a West Commerce Avenue building here that it will use as its primary showroom.
The 16,000-square-foot structure at 118 W. Commerce Ave. had been owned and occupied by Michelangelo Designs. Global spokesman Alex Rubinshteyn said renovation already has begun on the building and will be finished in time for the October market.
In recent years, Global has occupied a 3,000-square-foot space in Plaza Suites, and Rubinshteyn said the company will continue to use that space until its lease expires following the October 2006 market.
"We were looking for a larger space, and when this building became available, we grabbed it right away," he said.
Officials with Michelangelo Designs could not be reached for comment late last week about their plans for the October market.
