Douglas CEO steps down
Larry Thomas -- Furniture Today, October 2, 2005
El Segundo, Calif. — Douglas Furniture has named John Hale, chairman of the company's management committee, as acting chief executive officer. He is replacing Robert MacDonald, who has left the company.
MacDonald had been CEO since late 2003.
In addition to his management committee post, Hale is an operating partner with Norwest Equity Partners, the company's majority owner.
MacDonald said he plans to return to the Atlanta area, where the rest of his family lives. He said he will be looking for opportunities to invest in small to medium-sized businesses.
MacDonald is the second senior management person to leave Douglas in recent weeks. Luana Davis, senior vice president of merchandising and product development, resigned to launch a business, Luana Living.
Douglas produces casual dining, stationary and motion upholstery, occasional tables and parson's chairs. The company has a 600,000-square-foot factory in Tijuana, Mexico.
