MIAMI -- There's still time to register for the
, scheduled for Nov.30 to Dec. 2 at the Doral Golf Resort and Spa in Miami. This year’s conference theme — Thriving in a New World Order — underscores the rapid and pervasive change that has affected the furniture industry in the past year. The event, which brings together leading retailers, suppliers and manufacturers, offers a chance to hear from world-class speakers, brainstorm, network and share insights with other leaders in the business community. “While every industry faces change, the furniture arena, due to significant shifts in both production and distribution, has been faced with a higher-than-average number of paradigm shifts,” said Ray Allegrezza, editor in chief of Furniture/Today. “This annual event provides us the perfect platform to examine and discuss the ramifications that change brings to a business.” Attendees will hear from a host of gifted speakers, including Nido Qubein, who will kick off the conference Thursday morning. Qubein, a successful businessman and the president of High Point University, will talk about the “new world order” and what it takes to survive in that environment. Strategist Dave Mastovich, president of Massolutions, will discuss successful marketing strategies in today’s increasingly competitive arena. In keeping with a tradition of bringing in experts from outside the home furnishings industry, this year’s conference will also feature Ray Davis, president of Umpqua Bank, a fast-growing West Coast bank. Davis, who changed the culture of his company in a way that not only made sense, but dollars as well, will explain how and why he made those changes. Author and futurist Jim Carroll also will speak. In view of the critical role that successful retailers play in the industry, this year’s conference will feature two retail panels featuring the best and brightest merchants. Panelists include Don Marks of W.S. Badcock, Mulberry, Fla.; Keith Koenig of City Furniture, Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; Robert Levin of Levin Furniture, Smithton, Pa.; Jerry Baer of Baer’s, Pompano Beach, Fla.; Bob Segal of Big Lots, Columbus, Ohio; Pedro Capo of El Dorado Furniture, Miami Gardens, Fla.; Michael Jedlowski of Ashley HomeStores, Scottsdale, Ariz.; and Jeff Hosking of PMD Furniture Direct, Columbus, Ohio. Additionally, Steve Jett of Toyota will tell how his company creates dominant brands that keep revenues in the fast lane. Last but not least, Nicki Fielding of Digital Brand Expressions will discuss successful Internet branding efforts in the “new world order.” For registration information, contact Meg Goldsby at (336) 605-1066 or by e-mail at meg.goldsby@reedbusiness.com.
