Des Plaines, Ill. — Alan Cole, named president and chief operating officer of Schnadig in March 2004, has assumed the CEO duties from Don Belgrad, who remains chairman of the upholstery manufacturer and case goods importer.
Before joining Schnadig, Cole was president and CEO of LifeStyle Furnishings International and led the divestiture of its operating divisions.
A 30-year industry veteran, Cole also has been president and CEO of Berkline and vice president and general manager of upholstery for Broyhill.
"Alan has earned the respect of our employees, management and board of directors," Belgrad said. "We are lucky to have Alan's skills, leadership and fresh perspective at this critical juncture within our industry. To ensure Schnadig's success, Alan must have the authority and responsibility to implement our strategic business plan."
"Schnadig is well positioned as a highly credible, financially strong player in our industry," said Cole. "Our greatest challenge is to make the strategic revisions necessary to meet the consumer and retail needs during a period of unprecedented change."
Cole will continue to maintain offices in High Point and Chicago.
Schnadig, headquartered in this Chicago suburb, has a merchandising office in High Point, manufacturing and distribution facilities in Belmont, Miss., and Corona, Calif., and a sourcing subsidiary in Hong Kong. The company is among the industry's largest family-owned businesses.
