Jasper Cabinet returns to market
Thomas Russell -- Furniture Today, October 19, 2005
At the Market — High-end occasional furniture manufacturer Jasper Cabinet is back here for the first time in nearly three years.
The company is in about 400 square feet of the Broughton Hall showroom in space G-476 of the International Home Furnishings Center.
It's Jasper Cabinet's first High Point market since it was relaunched this spring by an investor group and management team led by Robert Cribbs, a former executive at Hekman/Woodmark and Kimball Home. Jasper had initially closed in 2002.
The reborn company had its first showing in Las Vegas in July. It decided to seek space in High Point at the urging of several customers and sales reps.
While the show in Las Vegas was successful for Jasper, Cribbs said he wanted to show in High Point to reach more higher-end dealers.
The company's line includes occasional products such as curios, billiard cabinets, beverage carts and secretaries. The secretaries are produced in a new Amish-owned factory in southern Indiana that opened in September.
The secretaries, which retail at around $2,000, are made from solid cherry, Cribbs said.
The company also will show a cellarette and computer secretary made at a plant in Jasper.
Cribbs said he had not planned to show in High Point because temporary space either was too expensive or had unattractive lease terms.
The arrangement with Broughton Hall came up at the last minute, and Cribbs is thrilled at the chance to share its space.
"This is a great opportunity, and I jumped on it," he said. "Broughton Hall is a high-quality, solid-wood furniture manufacturer, and the company (is) a good fit for Jasper Cabinet."
