Bernie & Phyl's donates furniture to kids' center

Jay McIntosh -- Furniture Today, October 20, 2005

Retailer Bernie & Phyl's Furniture has donated new waiting room furniture to the Children's Advocacy Center in Suffolk County, Massachusetts.

The CAC is a public-private partnership dedicated to minimizing trauma to children and families when concerns of abuse and violence arise. The organization recently moved into a larger space at the Boston Family Justice Center.

"Bernie & Phyl's cares about families in our community, including families and children that are in trouble and need help," said Bernie Rubin, co-founder and chairman of the retailer. "We're pleased that our furniture will help ease a stressful time for the people who come to the Children's Advocacy Center."

In another donation, the retailer and manufacturer Amesbury Chair partnered to give a dining table and eight chairs to the Franciscan Hospital for Children in Boston.

The hospital recently renovated a room for its mental health unit where families can meet with hospital staff. The companies donated the furniture to make the space more welcoming and hospitable.

Last fall, Bernie & Phyl's donated 10 glider rockers that are used throughout the hospital.
