Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams sends relief aid to Gulf Coast

Taylorsville, N.C. — Full-line furniture source Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams has sent a full truckload of nearly 100 mattress and box spring sets to aid people in the Gulf Coast left homeless as a result of Hurricane Katrina.
Chairman and co-founder Mitchell Gold said the company worked with Metropolitan Community Churches, a California-based church group, in a program called Mattresses and Microwaves to donate the beds to individuals living in unfurnished, temporary housing in Louisiana and Texas.
As people become more settled, Gold said, the company will make further furniture donations as well.
"As Americans, we're all trying to help these people in some way," said Bob Williams, co-founder and president of design.
"The loss of human life and the devastation is so overwhelming, but when we heard about this particular need for mattresses, we knew we could provide them quickly, and do our part in some way."
"We were particularly interested to work with Metropolitan Community Churches because of their dedication to provide help to people of all faiths," said Gold.
"One of the problems we fear with faith-based organizations is their insensitivity to people that don't fit into their particular mold. We searched for an organization with a proven track record of openness to people of all faiths, genders, color and sexual orientations."
