Leggett plans Vegas trade show

Set for Jan. 30-Feb. 1

David Perry -- Furniture Today, December 21, 2005

LAS VEGAS -- Bedding and furniture components powerhouse Leggett & Platt will hold its own trade show here in conjunction with next month's Las Vegas market.

Promoted as “Leggett Presents,” the event will feature machinery from L&P’s Global Systems Group, and innersprings, foam and fiber from the L&P Bedding Components and Hanes units.

The show, aimed at bedding manufacturers, will be held at the Las Vegas Convention Center, Hall 2 South, from Jan. 30-Feb. 1. The dates overlap with the Las Vegas market, which continues on later into the week.

The Leggett & Platt showing adds even more bedding firepower to the Vegas market. Most major bedding producers are now committed to show at the January market, and the L&P event adds another dimension to the bedding happenings.

Attendees at Leggett Presents will see the latest developments in quilting machines, sewing machines, conveyors and related equipment from the Global Systems Group.

Leggett also will hold seminars each day of its show. Fire Retardancy Compliance and How to Prepare will be presented by flammability expert Gordon Damant and Robert Backstrom, a fire protection engineer with Underwriters Laboratories. Understanding the Global Supply Chain and Using Continuous Improvement and Lean Manufacturing to Improve Your Business will be presented by Randall Wood, L&P’s director of optimization-operations.

Marketing and retail point-of-purchase ideas for bedding will be presented in a special display area at the show.

Here are some of the product highlights on tap:

+ Gribetz will offer “the most complete collection of quilting machines ever shown.” They include the Axiom, which the company describes as “the most advanced quilting machine in the world,” paired with the Omni Cutter, “the first-ever center cut panel cutter.” Also, Paragon, “the proven workhorse of quilting machines,” is matched with the Pro ME panel cutter.

Other Gribetz offerings include the redesigned and re-engineered Reliance M+, Centrixx, “the first dual-head chain-stitch machine that sews a full range of single-needle scroll patterns,” and Legacy, a new quilting machine.

Gribetz also will show its automatic mattress/foundation packaging system, The Wrapper, which has been enhanced to improve production time. And the TapeMaster is a new tape edge machine for high-volume mattress manufacturers designed to easily sew today’s heavy premium mattresses.

* Porter will show its wide range of sewing machines and systems. Many machines are new and have never been shown before. Also on tap are high-speed border machines, flange machines, tape edge machines, ruffle machines and label sewers.

* Hanes will be showing its IntePlus XF film, which the company said provides superior protection for a wide range of products. It will be demonstrated on the Gribetz Wrapper.

* L&P Bedding Components and Hanes Non-Wovens will be showing innovations in innersprings, foam and fiber.
