Sealy going to Vegas

Archdale, N.C. — Bedding's already strong presence at the Las Vegas furniture market will get a significant boost with Sealy, the world's largest bedding producer, showing at the next market, Jan. 30–Feb. 3.
Sealy has leased a permanent showroom in the World Market Center's Building B, set to open in January 2007, and for now will exhibit in temporary space in Pavilion II. For the upcoming market, Sealy also will show at The Aladdin Hotel.
With Sealy's commitment, all Top 10 bedding producers that show at markets will be at the next Las Vegas event. Sealy was the only one of bedding's Big Four not at the first Vegas market last summer.
"The Las Vegas market provides our West Coast and international customers with a convenient and accessible location, and offers Sealy another opportunity to showcase our portfolio of products, meet with customers and do business," said Dave McIlquham, Sealy's CEO.
Larry Rogers, president of Sealy International, said, "The World Market Center has done a terrific job in creating a world-class environment, drawing tens of thousands of buyers from more than 80 countries and an array of quality companies — and Sealy is proud to be among them."
WMC officials said they were pleased to add Sealy to the show's bedding roster.
"Sealy is such a well-known and respected name in the bedding category, and we are proud to have them as temporary exhibitors for 2006, as well as future tenants in Building B," said Babs Blair, director of leasing at the WMC. "With the addition of Sealy, the Las Vegas market has definitely become 'the destination' for bedding buyers in the home furnishings industry."
Sealy will join bedding producers Kingsdown and Therapedic in making their first showing in Las Vegas in January. Kingsdown will conduct a private showing at The Venetian, while Therapedic will be in temporary space at Mandalay Bay.
The market in Las Vegas is now clearly the industry's strongest venue for bedding. And the gains in Vegas come at a time when bedding's presence at the High Point market is slipping. Kingsdown has exited the largest market building in High Point, but says it will retain a presence at the market.
Fast-growing Tempur-Pedic has made its last showing in High Point, company officials said.
That leaves three Top 10 bedding companies with permanent space in High Point: Sealy, based in Archdale, where it has a showroom, Therapedic and Englander.
