Attorneys in Charleston, S.C., seek to add city as defendant in wrongful death suit
Case relates to 2007 fire at Sofa Super Store
Furniture Today Staff -- Furniture Today, August 3, 2009
CHARLESTON, S.C. — Attorneys for the Sofa Super Store here, where nine Charleston firefighters died two years ago, want to add the city as a defendant in a wrongful death lawsuit against the store and certain contractors and furniture suppliers, according to a report on ClaimsJournal.com.
But the city's attorneys say it shouldn't be a defendant, in part because it already settled wrongful death claims under workers' compensation. In addition, the firefighters' families involved in the wrongful death suit also oppose including the city.
A court hearing was set for Monday.
